Glossary of Marketing Terms


Advertising: Actions to call people's attention to products or services by introducing them to people through mass media channels. The purpose of advertising is to create interest and opinion in the favor of the thing being presented in the ads.

Brand
: A symbol, mark or name associated with a particular product or service for the consumer to identify it amongst similar products or services on the market.

Brand name: The name that a manufacturer gives to a product or service produced to distinguish it from similar products or services on the market.

Demand: The consumers' ability and want to purchase products and services.

Economics: Science that studies production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.

Keyword: A word or a phrase that people mostly type in the search bar of their favorite search engines in order to find what they need.

Market: (1) The field of buyers and sellers of a specific product or service; (2) a specific group composed of buyers of a particular product or service, who can be further identified by a special range in age, income, residency location or other characteristics that inhere in each member of such group.

Marketing: Consists of: (1) having something to sell, (2) packaging it so that the product is both best displayed and safeguarded until it is used by consumers and (3) making people aware of it and want it using the least effort, money and time yet returns maximum sales.

Marketing plan: A plan implemented after market research and analysis that clearly shows how to get a certain product from the produce company to the consumers.

Mass product: Relates to mass market which is a general consumer market of dairy products as opposed to a restricted market such as a market for skiing.

Potential: That may possibly become something or somebody, be used or happen in the future.

Promotion: Getting one's products or services out, getting them known and well thought of.

Prospect: Potential customer, client; candidate.

Public relations: PR or public relations is an art of making the company or something or someone else well known and forming the opinion of the public in the favor of things or people being promoted. It is the science to persuade people to think in the desired direction and set, forward and protect public image, management policies and the business or brand reputation.

Product: Something made in a factory or formed naturally.

Service: Some work provided to somebody in exchange for money or by barter.

Strategy: A thorough step-by-step plan that is used to attain an overall goal.

Supply: The amount of products or services available to fill the demand.

Target market: Same as the 2nd definition of market; also called target audience, target public.

Traffic: People visiting your website.
